A UK food manufacturer contacted us about a replacement PLC. We’ve handled this routine enquiry too many times to count. However, this PLC posed a significant challenge: the part had been obsolete for more than ten years.
After so long out of production, it became exceptionally difficult to find one. The customer needed that particular component, so sourcing it meant looking beyond readily available products.
Finding the Part Despite Its Obsolescence

CJS Batch Of Parts Ready For Dispatch
We took on the search and sourced the required PLC, despite its long-term obsolescence.
This was a request where persistence mattered. An older component may be difficult to locate, but that does not always mean every supply option has been exhausted. Our job was to establish whether the part could still be found, and in this case, we secured it for our customer.
A Replacement Worth Exploring First
Finding the original component gave the manufacturer a replacement option for their existing equipment.
For me, this shows why it’s worth checking availability before committing to more extensive changes. Each enquiry needs its own assessment, but a discontinued part shouldn’t automatically end the search.
